In 2020, we started to implement a project entitled " Identification of the main causes of air pollution in the North Bohemian Brown Coal Basin" supported by the State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic under the Program supported by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021.
As part of the project, we are trying to develop information obtained by the Ministry of the Environment in preparing the update of the air quality improvement program for the Northwest Zone and create a more detailed local analysis of the state of the air for three districts of the Ústí Region.
The aim of the project is to identify the origin of air pollution by PM2.5 and PM10 particles in the North Bohemian Coal Basin and to reduce the impact of air pollutants through the adoption of appropriate measures.
As part of the project, our company performs short-term measurements of PM2.5 and PM10 particle concentrations and, in cooperation with the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, other long-term measurements and chemical analyzes of particles. The project has the ambition to use new and modern interpretive tools to describe the distribution of air pollution.
In 2021, in the first half of the year, a supplier of measuring technology and necessary services (measurement) was selected. In the second half of the year, measurement campaigns began, which will culminate mainly in 2022. In 2023, short-term campaigns will continue and the evaluation results will be evaluated. The last step will be the preparation of an action plan with a proposal for action.
The project will have two outputs: The first is a report containing an analysis of the obtained data on the level of pollution and the second is the action plan of Severočeské doly a.s. for Bílina Quarry.
The project will bring benefits not only to state administration bodies operating in the field of air protection, which will strengthen knowledge about the affected area, but especially to the inhabitants of the Ústí nad Labem region, whose chances of improving air quality increase.
This is the area we want to focus on. An area that has got rid of a huge environmental burden in the past but still has its problems. Our ambition is to understand these issues more.
Coal-fired power plants located in close proximity to surface quarries. They take care of energy supplies for the whole of the Czech Republic, but logically they represent a burden for the territory where they are located.
Reclaimed spaces are starting to come to life with new life, and that's very good news. The planned measurement will show how the air quality is in places in close proximity to a functional quarry.
